Plastic Bag 4 (I’ve forgotten so much already) is a mixed media piece, featuring a plastic take-out bag embroidered with recycled synthetic mohair. “I’ve forgotten so much already” rendered in sprawling hand embroidered text brings the mundane functionality of the plastic bag into conflict with its emotional message. The personal and impersonal are juxtaposed through the interaction between yarn and plastic, with the loose ends representing the anguish of forgetting. The bag is two-sided and can be hung either forward or backward; when front facing, the text is deliberately articulated, whereas the back side transmutes the sorrow of the piece, displaying the painful, chaotic imperfections behind the message.
